Walking for Beginners

Heel Toe Express: For Beginners

You know you want to start getting into better shape. But you are not sure where to start. Well, it’s easy! Walking is one of the easiest forms of exercise. All you need is a good pair of shoes, comfortable clothing and the desire to improve your health.

You can start out slow and easy. Just head out the door and go for a 10-minute walk. That’s it. Do that every day for a week. If or when the 10-minute walk becomes too easy just add 5 more minutes to your walk. Slowly keep adding time until you’re walking your desired amount of time. Start keeping track of the number of steps you take each day. A future goal might be 10,000 steps every day.

It may help to get yourself a pedometer. Wearing a Pedometer while walking will help you keep track of how many steps you take. A pedometer counts the number of steps you take during your walk. It can help you to set up goals and achieve them.

The hardest thing is to develop a habit of walking every day. It takes about 67 days to change or develop a habit. You should make time for exercise. After walking for 67 days, your day will feel incomplete if you don’t walk.

If you’re looking to lose weight, try a brisk walk for 45 minutes every day or at least 5 days a week. If you’re improving your cardio, walk 3 – 4 times a week for 30 minutes a day at a fast pace.

So hop on the Heel Toe Express and start walking today. Remember that Einstein explained, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
